While the Dreamcast was ahead of it's time and a great system (first to do online gaming too) the Saturn deserved to fail.... It came out at the same time as the PS1 at the same price, but it was not able to produce the 3D graphics the PS1 could manage (if you ever saw the Saturn's version of Tomb Raider and Die Hard Trilogy you'd know what I mean, the PS1 version was much better looking). Some good games sure, but Sega didn't really get the Saturn right. The failure of the DreamCast was sad though as it was a great system that really was ahead of it's time in so many ways.
I agree it's a shame, the Dreamcast was my favorite console from that generation.

I dunno the sales figures off hand, but I the the GC was pretty much a flop too from what I remember reading (at least relativity), it's just unlike Sega the big N had enough financial backing to ride it out (and it's handheld's were still doing great). Plus there would have been the hardcore fans that got a GC just for the usual Nintendo IP's, and tragically Sega fucked the Sonic franchise up and never really managed it's transition into 3D. Sega put a lot into the Dreamcast but was still trying to recover after the disastrous Saturn launch, so anything other than an all out runaway success was going to end Sega's hardware endeavors. I agree it's a shame, the Dreamcast was my favorite console from that generation.

You might second guess that stance. Especially all the emulation features

I felt the games offered better gameplay..which to me was more important than graphics..tbh I didn't really notice much of a difference in graphics either..it lacked in games compared to playstation, but I enjoyed the few it had more.. also,it seems that here in the States, and I could be wrong..been awhile..that the Saturn was out a good 5-6 months before playstation..seems that's the reason I had it,in the first place.. reason I said "Bad Timing" sega always seemed to release something nice, and something slightly better follows half a year later.. which would have still been ok,if they could have produced games..in any case,it came down to personal preference, and what gave me the better memories. Nes,Saturn, and PC never felt the love for PlayStation
Yeah Nights was great, forgot about that one!
