While the Dreamcast was ahead of it's time and a great system (first to do online gaming too) the Saturn deserved to fail.... It came out at the same time as the PS1 at the same price, but it was not able to produce the 3D graphics the PS1 could manage (if you ever saw the Saturn's version of Tomb Raider and Die Hard Trilogy you'd know what I mean, the PS1 version was much better looking).  Some good games sure, but Sega didn't really get the Saturn right.  The failure of the DreamCast was sad though as it was a great system that really was ahead of it's time in so many ways.

I still have some brand new Saturn games laying around,i have a mint condition need for speed buried in my closet.
Silly Billy.

I had the broadband adaptor for my DC. I wish I still had it because there are still some sites dedicated to online multiplayer for it. Quake Arena was one of the better multiplayer expiriences, Phantasy Star Online kind of revolutionized what an MMO could be. It just couldn't get past the hype of other systems at the time.

I am still surprised, it didn't kick the Gamecubes ass. That was an atrocious system, that had little to offer besides a bunch of really bad games. I was never really impressed by it and am still not.

I dunno the sales figures off hand, but I the the GC was pretty much a flop too from what I remember reading (at least relativity), it's just unlike Sega the big N had enough financial backing to ride it out (and it's handheld's were still doing great). Plus there would have been the hardcore fans that got a GC just for the usual Nintendo IP's, and tragically Sega fucked the Sonic franchise up and never really managed it's transition into 3D.  Sega put a lot into the Dreamcast but was still trying to recover after the disastrous Saturn launch, so anything other than an all out runaway success was going to end Sega's hardware endeavors.

I agree it's a shame, the Dreamcast was my favorite console from that generation.

If I were to tell you, all the shit you could do with a DC. You might second guess that stance. Especially all the emulation features

I've owned both, and I still stand behind the saturn.. I felt the games offered better gameplay..which to me was more important than graphics..tbh I didn't really notice much of a difference in graphics either..it lacked in games compared to playstation, but I enjoyed the few it had more.. also,it seems that here in the States, and I could be wrong..been awhile..that the Saturn was out a good 5-6 months before playstation..seems that's the reason I had it,in the first place.. reason I said "Bad Timing" sega always seemed to release something nice, and something slightly better follows half a year later.. which would have still been ok,if they could have produced games..

in any case,it came down to personal preference, and what gave me the better memories. Nes,Saturn, and PC  never felt the love for PlayStation

Well, boils down to the games really doesn't it? Even being a DC fan, the PS2 was a better system to own over all. The PS2 had a much longer life with a greater backlog of games (as well as backward compatibility).  Emulation on the DC was pretty cool I agree, but sadly the Snes emulation was never really perfected (although some games very playable).  Those Bleemcast emulators for the DC that allowed you to play some PS1 games on the DC with upscaled graphics were awesome though, shame it was limited to only 3 games (and one leaked beta that played all games badly).

I guess I mean it was my favorite system potentially, if it had lived it's full life cycle, seen games like GTA 3 ect.  Also, I didn't really like the pads or the rather pointless VMU's, but I had a converter to allow me to use a PS2 pad with it and that was just great.

I guess if the Saturn had had it's full life span the games would have really come into their own, and if you were not into the 3D so much back then, I can see it was not an issue, but there is no denying the 3D on the Saturn sucked, which was a rather big oversight of Sega.  Also I didn't know there was a good 6 month gap in the USA between them, in the UK it was only a week.... and they were both the same price, so that does change things.

The Saturn, was an interesting machine in it's own right. The definitive version of SOTN was released for it, though we never saw it here state side. I just thought it was odd, how they focused so much on an arcade expirience with their last two systems. Die Hard Arcade, was a prime example. No one can deny though, that Nights was a brilliant game.
