Max Payne Series
« on: April 16, 2012, 11:37:26 PM »
Hey there,

You think the Max Payne series are worth a buy? Steam's selling all of them in one price.

I find the next instalmant interesting because he gets old and fat and looks more weary instead of being constipated.  :)

Pretty good can be a little wonky but good. Ask Stephen he would know a lot more since he's been covering them

Dark and gritty noir with some damn memorable gunfights = absolutely worth a buy!   8)

I love the fact that the game producers changed the direction of the game. Max Payne, becoming more desperate, and become a bodyguard of some dangerous group in San Paul. :)

The first was good, I didn't care for the second in the least. I am unsure about the third installment.

To be honest - I like the 2nd one. I don't know why, it was so Matrix style at that time I played. (Matrix can be overrated but it's always fun to watch it!)

I really thought the Matrix games were underrated. I really liked Enter The Matrix. It had some really cool things going for it.

Yeah, the games were seldom heard of hence being underrated, but the movie's a bit overrated. :)

I loved Max Payne and Max Payne 2 although I'm slightly concerned about how Rockstar will handle Max Payne 3. From what I've seen it looks quite good but my main concerns are the following three things:

- Limited Weapons. Max Payne and Max Payne 2 allowed all weapons to be carried at once, Max Payne 3 only allows three weapons to be carried.

- Comic book style cutscenes are no more. In Max Payne and Max Payne 2 the comic book style cut scenes were one of the main things that attracted me to the games, it's a cool and unique way of telling a story and in Max Payne 3 it's been replaced by 'motion comic' style cutscenes

- PC versions will suck. Rockstar puts very little effort into the optimization of their PC titles. Grand Theft Auto IV and LA Noire are prime examples of this. As a PC gamer this is a concern to me..

Looks like part 3 is getting really great reviews.  It looks fun, amazing gun play mechanics. I enjoyed the first two.  Guilty pleasures.

You've just reminded me that there is a good chance Max Payne 3 will have GFWL, ugh.

I've never played Max Payne games but I've just read this:

Insta-hate for the whole series and --lots of rep for Rockstar (although they didn't have much before).

Anyone got Max Payne 3 yet? I picked up the PC version the other day and it's pretty damn good. Only things I don't like about it is that you can only carry three weapons and that the cutscenes aren't comic strips like the first two games.

Rockstar has actually managed to develop a good PC version this time around. I can run it maxed out (and I mean absolutely maxed out, tessellation on high, etc..) and it runs smoothly on my PC whereas I still can't run GTA IV on PC maxed out without lag.

My PC specs are Q6600 @ 3ghz, GTX570, 4gb ddr2.
