The Golden Age Of Cartoons
« on: April 13, 2012, 04:39:56 PM »
The midnight article comes early tonight. I have something I need to attend to later so, for the few that care, you get it early. In the forums, we have spent alot of time talking about cartoons. I am going to war the readers already that some of the cartoons in this article are very racially insensitive. Just understand, it's all in good nature.

Way back in the 40's, when we were fighting Hitler and Tojo, was when this Bugs Bunny cartoon was produced. Not to different than the Postal dude and really he is kind of bad ass.

Have you seen Bug Bunny lately? He's pretty fucking metro. In fact, if he was anymore metro, him and Daffy would be blowing each other up the aisle. I am not saying anything about gay marriage, I am just saying more about how Bugs Bunny has changed. Here take a look.

What the fuck? Why is Daffy getting a fucking nose job? Why is Bug Bunny dressed like a pencil pushing dildo? Shouldn't they be kicking Bin Laden in the nuts or something. I mean, anything than getting nose jobs and fucking spining around in office chairs.

Yeah, that's Donald Duck telling you to pay your taxes. This was made back in 1943 and really adults paid attention. These were the spokesmen for a generation. A pantless duck informed millions to pay their taxes for the war effort. What's he doing now?

Not sure, it looks like he is celebrating Sinco De Mayo year round. I guess it's a 24 hour party and I have seen those pictures of him from the 70's shooting dope so really, he could be a drug mule. I would ask him but he's really fucked up.

This used to be a stoner staple for teenagers around the world. You would hangout, watch some Ren and Stimpy, blaze a fatty, and just chill. They have since retired but what are the kids into now?

I know some people are into it, but I still don't fucking get it. It's ponies, doing things that are mundane even by my standards. We went from Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy. To that, damn I feel old.

Yeah, a generation of kids grew up on that. I am not even sure I can point at that cartoon without being called horribly racist. In fact, it is horribly racist but isn't this?

But isn't that racist too? I mean, aren't there better ways to include a populace besides dressing like that? I am pissed because in order for my kids, which I don't have, to watch real cartoons. They have to go to Youtube. I am sorry if this offended anyone but should it really?

I mean, since we did we become a group of weak cockchokers? I want Bugs Bunny back to kicking Nazi's in the dick. I want Ren And Stimpy doing whatever the fuck it was they did. All in all, I want cartoons back. Who's with me?

I'm with you. I prefer classic cartoons anytime than the newer ones.

First, the classic ones don't have the unusual glare. The colours are warm and they have no awkward contrasts. Earlier cartoons like Johnny Bravo, Dexter, and uh... Ed Edd Eddy were still good.

Ren and Stimpy were my favourite. The jokes were downright funny and I could still remember it. Whizz on the electric fence? That was the most outrageous thing ever they did! I wanted to watch the adult version but I can't seem to get it anywhere. I watched some fragments of the show in Youtube, that's about it.

I do not know about the new My Little Pony series at all, and as the same thing, I don't get how the adults liked it as well. I watched those older My Little Pony when I was a kid.

Unfortunately I do not have the subscription to the satelite TV nowadays as they are fucked up and a totalled mess since after 2001.

Yup, the face of cartoons certainly has changed.  I grew up and still love Popeye.  Personally, I'll take Max Fleischer over Walt Disney any day, but early Disney cartoons were landmark in their own right.

Also, I had this on tape:

Song of the Birds - Little Audrey Cartoon(Un-censored)

as well as several other early cartoons- some with more racial stereotypes than others  ;)  But in terms of humor and artistic vision, these cartoons can still beat the pants off of many animated series that are put out today.

Visually, I think a major turning point came when animation went digital.  Now this in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing.  Many of the cartoons coming out of Adult Swim still have some damn good animation.  But the problem lies in the fact that many shows are too "streamlined" these days.  Its a lot easier to cut corners in terms of production, with in-betweens looking way too smooth and, more often than not, characters coming off as lifeless marionettes.

Humor is another matter altogether.  Its like you guys already kinda said.  Sadly it seems that cartoons (at least for kids) have gotten much more repressed in terms of what is "socially acceptable."

I don't know when parents got so up tight about what their kids watch. In the 80's we saw kids backing shotguns and killing monsters, teenagers slashed into bits, none of us turned out exceptionally fucked up. We make to many assumptions about how fragile kids are but really, they are more durable than the adults who think that their kids need therapy at 8.

No shit, I heard a new fad amongst the really rich is to put their kids into therapy early on. Like at the age of 4 to get over the trauma of being born. Fucking really? I don't get it honestly but I digress.

Yeah, that Little Audrey cartoon is classic and I will have to check out more of them personally because I am kind of blind about all the older cartoons out there. What was important was that they made them appealing to all ages. I can't stand the shit being produced now in the era of PC. I barely recognize what they are doing with the classics.

Part of me also thinks it's a reflection of what our society has became as well. We're not worried about real issues, we want nose jobs and desk jobs. I don't know maybe I am over thinking this one but it is kind of sad.

yes today's parents are totally fucked

I've even heard that they consider the old books for children

like
Hansel and Gretel
Little Red Riding Hood
Cinderella
or Snow White

inappropriate for children
You need to laughing at everything, and especially from yourself

Welcome to Hell
a bad joke - Postal 1 the worst part of the Postal series xD

Some of those weren't written for children to begin with. Really, we have became insane about what we do/don't allow our kids to partake in. If you show an episode of the little rascals to them, they are sent to sensitivity training. I don't get it.

Some even complained Tom and Jerry being too violent. The huge mallet, the banging of heads, the slamming of piano cover to hands, and stuff.

I watched millions of those comic mischief, but I never tried doing any of those. Neither did anyone else attempting it.

Most kids have a firmer grip on reality and fantasy than we like to admit. We hate to give kids credit for anything but really, they are pretty smart. We under cut them because it's a way for us to write them off as a group.

Kinda, I'd say. There were even ciggie advertisments which shouted "Dunhill" and "Malboro" but I never asked about cigarettes in front of my parents. And not even other asking for it.

When I was working in a childcare center for a few months many years ago, kids wouldn't give a damn about what they watched on TV afterwards. They'd just say "T'was cool" or "Wow" or that occasional laugh when they saw something outrageous. They never imitated any of those, except only some harmless moves of "Power Rangers".

I do not know about the kids at this current millenium. Probably the parents "shrink-wrapped" them too much until they can't get a firm grip of the reality.
