Games similar to Postal "style"
« on: April 03, 2012, 02:58:11 AM »
Hey, ever since I played Postal 2 I wondered if there are any other games that are at least a little bit like it - silly, dark-humored, politically incorrect, with less shooting and more vicious fun... and FREEDOM. The closest one I know (in terms of atmosphere) is the "little brother" - Eternal Damnation (which I really enjoyed, though the "freedom" is relative here).

Do you have any suggestions? I'd just love to fuck around mindlessly, cut some limbs, kick some babies, without having to shoot enemies all the time (I'm a fragile woman, you know). Maybe Saints Row is a bit like that, though it just doesn't have the right atmosphere... And Prototype is... well, had some fun with it too, but it gets dull quite quickly.

I know there are a few lists out there but it would be great to hear some suggestions directly from the die-hard fans.

edit: (shit, wrong forum maybe - just kick me somewhere topical)

Hey there,

I've moved it to the Games topic. :)

As far as I've known, there are no games which comes close to Postal series in terms of style. I can't think of one, and "State of Anarchy" by Rockstar definitely isn't one of them too.

Saints Row the third is great fun and the closest you'll get to Postal (not very close mind you, but about the best I can think of for now).  One of the level designers that worked on Postal 2 is the lead (I think) Level designer now for the guys that made Saints Row the Third too, so it's kinda connected that way.

Thankfully, there is not and hopefully never will be anything else that resembles the disaster that is Postal 3

No wonder I got some of the Postal-style (or reminiscent) humour from SR3!

SR3 made me lol so hard. Even the DLC I have, they delivers.

If they are making SR4, I'll preorder them for sure! :)

Yeah SR3 is fantastic, it's an SDK away from being my favorite of all time.

I like the way they put "Adult Swim" songs all inside the game radio as well.

I live on the other side of the world, hence I do not know "Adult Swim", but now I know why when they play the "Sports" song. 8)

Well, I was secretly hoping for some "underground" gems full of bad taste and fun. Nevermind, gonna play SR3 some more (more than Postal3, that's for sure  :'( ).

Bad Day LA? Never heard of it! But it's some American McGee game which are usually quite well.

Let's see if this game is any good :)

its called harvester and its quite old game (1993 or someting like that)
it is quest, but u can run aruond killing everyone(for quest its strange , but it works)
this game was banned practicaly in every country, but can download it somewhere ,its not a problem.
you will nedd doss box to run it,but grafics is photorealisticand pretty good.
be carefull playng this game <it is more violent and crazy than postal (imo)

Bij coincidence I watched an entire playthrough of this game on youtube yesterday. It's indeed a free roaming/mission game but more mixed with point and click. The graphics amazed me and this game is 100% sick , the music is truely dark. I recommend anyone to give this game a try, just don't spoil the gameplay with watching the playthrough first, looking back I regret not grabbing the game when I saw this game is very interesting. It's now free @ LTF Abandonware (abandonware-france.org), this is a french only version though.
