LOL @ YOU.. Who paid for those academic projects? I'm sure a bunch of Generals just sat around for free teaching all day, huh? There's always monetary incentive (or some incentive in military case) .. Linux isn't a very good example either.. There's tons of money floating around behind that scene buddy..
Oh,and BTW "Greed" was your word..Some people want to turn a profit w/out being greedy.. (it's called putting food on the table).. The bottom line is..personal computing was empowered by people wanting to make money..You can point out a few examples, sure, but the majority is money..
But yo.. believe what you want.. That's the beauty of it..
MrD I say more without monetary incentives we wouldn't have even play this
Yeah.. Probably not,but you get what I'm saying,right..The Computer Age we know today is here because of people wanting to cash in.. Basically without the "greed" FaTony is bitching about. He wouldn't have Internet,or PC to be bitching about it..
Thanks for the info. =) If anyone's wondering what the hell I'd want lower than 640x480 for, I actually want to set it to 512x448 to have a dedicated video mode perfect for NES/SNES emulation. As well as 1280x448 for Genesis emulation, so that there are no scaling artifacts whatsoever when switching between 256x224 and 320x224 mode.
Ahhhhh.. yeah. I was wondering tbh.
I haven't ran anything that low in years,so I can't comment on that..However,Driver wise..AMD/ATI has come a long way..while I've never hated the cards themselves..I do recall earlier ATI cards needing special user made drivers to run smooth (Catalyst being shit then).& You could hang it up in linux..That's not the case anymore..(zero issues) *knocks on wood..
Well,wait..few scaling issues in linux on my 42" LED,but nvidia suffers in the same way..only slightly worse.
TBHT I'm not sure who the king is these days..I do know that you can get some great deals on both @ any giving time tho..
Yeah man..seems like every other time for me.. Nvidia cards tend to have some good rebates from time to time.. which equal 'em out.. & back when..nvidia had better linux drivers. (which counted) ..ATI/AMD is doing pretty damn good linux wise these days as well tho,so you know..
still.. not a fan boy.. I go with best deal @ time of need.. my last build was AMD/ATI based all the way..simply because of rebates,sales,etc..bang for buck.. sitting on a quad core @ 3.4 Ghz with 12 gig ddr3,and ati HD6570..SSD drive.. More than enough for me..

Steam is our main focus,& will end up being the version to have for the ultimate experience.. We have some plans that can only be accomplished with steam, which I won't get into @ the moment..(Just in case it falls thru)..In any case..Any patches that we make/release that CAN be added to older versions will be made available, but a lot of new features will be steam only..
I don't know why there's so much hate towards AMD. I love my HD6950. It runs just as good as an equivalent Nvidia card, sometimes better. ATI has really been picking up the slack over the past few years.
I love my ATI/AMD setup as well..I don't play favorites tho, just go with which ever offers best bang for buck @ the time I need the parts..
