See, first you admit about monetary incentive. That's what I'm talking about. Next, there's a line between just wanting to earn some money to live and plain greed.
If game developers wouldn't be greedy, they would at least release their games as free software 5 years after commercial release, because they don't get much money after a few weeks after it.
But they don't. They want every penny they can squeeze out of the so-called "intellectual property". They even invented this propaganda term and try to lobby their greedy interest through the government.

Yeah.. Probably not,but you get what I'm saying,right..The Computer Age we know today is here because of people wanting to cash in.. Basically without the "greed" FaTony is bitching about. He wouldn't have Internet,or PC to be bitching about it..
Those were all military/academic projects. Greed didn't make DARPA which made the Internet. US army did. There was no copyright before ~1700, how come so many great works were made before it? How come GNU/Linux exists and there are many people contributing to it without monetary incentive?

Wow tony it's only DRM you can get somebody from thepiratebay irc to heavily mod the game for you.
So you say it is ok that we have to engage in a potentially illegal activity in order to just play the game? The laws are completely unreasonable and game developers are greedy bastards.

Their main goal for creating Video Games Live was to show the world how culturally significant and artist video games have become. Do not believe the lies. The copyright term in US for works for hire is 95 years since publication (or 120 years since creation, whichever is smaller). Super Mario Bros will fall into public domain in 2080. Who will have a working NES then? Until then, sharing Super Mario Bros is a copyright infringement. Also, it requires proprietary and undocumented hardware (NES) to run. You see, nobody cared about even potential cultural significance when developing it. Nobody will study in schools or preserve 99.9% of the games because it will be prohibitively expensive and hardware just breaks and people don't know (or have the right, hello patents) how to develop an alternative. Most of the video games are designed to run on proprietary hardware and software and have a DRM (even NES had DRM) that fists your ass. In order to benefit society, the games should be released as free software. And released completely, not just code, but all the assets such as audio, textures and other. And they also should not require proprietary operating system, device drivers or hardware to operate because that will become a single point of failure. Also, do you see that all those names are either trademarks or registered trademarks? That also needs to change. For example, Mozilla Firefox is not a free software because it contains proprietary trademarked logos. Debian project was required to remove logos to make a free software version called Iceweasel. Who would want to remove trademarked material from video games? Nobody. Get real. Mainstream video games is a money sucking consume-and-forget entertainment. No culture. No soul. JUST. BUSINESS.

ATI is dead. I'm an AMD fan. The reason is that I always got bad performance from Intel / Nvidia. Although, I never owned a high-end hardware from them.

Yeah, I got it back at launch, it was pretty awesome. It was a lot smaller, but damn it, it didn't have ADHD, it was focused. People have commented that I'm the only "premium player" that doesn't give a crap about HURR HATS. I'm only premium cuz i got the game before it became f2p and everything went further to shit.
I got into the beta. All servers vanilla running only vanilla maps. And I also got a new rig. It was like heaven back then.

I don't really care if they wanna ask for money on their site to fund the mod, but I'd not advise anyone to even consider donating to ANY project until a team has really proven itself. This is of course a new mod team that don't have any past credentials, so asking people to trust them to finish the entire project is not enough. What they are doing is not trivial, porting the AI, liquid physics, map code ect will take quite a skilled coder even.
They won't be able to offer any rewards or bonuses for anyone that donates either as at that point they are selling something based on the P2 IP, so there won't be a great deal of intensive for anyone to do so right now, they are more likely to end up with a few donations after the mods release for free as a 'thank you' from anyone that's pleased with the work.
Absolutely agree. There are many big words but very little of the real thing. Also, they have only one programmer. That simply won't fly.

Right. Currently I have about.... 10 games at all in my possession. That went down from about 90 games in my Steam library and 70 physical discs.

I do miss the 2007 build of the game though I would pay a lot of that one. Only without Steam though.

I've already partly switched to open source games. No source = no deal.
