P1 General / About that F1« on: March 31, 2013, 06:46:12 AM »
You know, back in the days it was excusable to make mistakes in usability of your games and forget about it. But now, since you are updating the game and you know that a lot of people don't know that they need to press F1 at the end of the level, why not fix this bug? Instead, you've put an achievement. Any logic???

P2 and AW General / Feature request: compass« on: December 04, 2012, 06:59:12 PM »
So I'm watching let's plays of P2 and I noticed that people use map a lot. And I also remember my first playthrough, I also used it a lot. I think a basic compass will help navigating through Paradise. Nothing fancy, just a rotating texture in the corner of the screen.
What do you think? 7

Games / Another giveaway« on: November 19, 2012, 04:47:06 AM »
Well, in the planned move to completely abandon Steam I decided to empty my inventory. Unfortunately, there is no way to delete items and I don't want to wait a week 4 Steam support to respond. So I decided to give out all my games. So far I have:

General / The end of free Internet in Russia« on: November 16, 2012, 12:14:20 PM »
Well, just a few days ago the law 139-FZ came into effect. In a nutshell, it creates Internet blacklist which puts Russia just next to a China. Yes, it's all formally because of the children but we all know that it's the first step to obtain total control of people.
Good thing I have Tor up and running. 10
So 2 days ago I've stumbled to this and I'm still shocked. I've never used Facebook myself but when I opened the list of cookies in my browser, I was shocked to find that damned "datr" one. Big brother is watching. Now it all makes sense because I almost never give out my e-mails but one day I've received an invitation to Facebook from (supposedly) my RL friend, but when I asked him about that, he said that he never sent an invite. So, even if I never used Facebook, it somehow knows my e-mail (which I since deleted) and at least 1 of my RL friends. This is an unspeakable breach of privacy and really eye-opening incident.
So first, I've deleted Facebook cookie and added facebook.com to the list not to accept cookies from. Then I've added new rule "facebook.com/*" to AdBlock Plus (which already has 454 hits). Next, I'm going to add all Facebook IP addresses to the router firewall so I could seal my home from Facebook completely. After that I've found another shocking truth. You know, Steam integration with Facebook and requirement to use your real name to get Pillar of community badge. Steam is one of them! Steam is also hungry for your personal data. So I've decided to stop licensing games from Steam and stop using it completely in next 2 years. More threads to follow. 11
General / Fair warning: do not buy Creative sound cards« on: November 12, 2012, 10:07:38 AM »
It looks like I've finished going through several weeks of painfully trying to get drivers to work. So far I've encountered the following issues:
These all were solved by several complete reinstalls of drivers, registry tweaks, ritual dances and human sacrifice. You know, back in the days Sound Blaster was a synonym for a sound card, no longer. Fuck this shit. 12

P2 and AW General / Thank you for respecting gamers!« on: November 02, 2012, 11:13:34 PM »
So I've started Steam version for the first time, clenched my teeth and prepared to suffer from installation of the following:
And, surprise! Nothing of that started and I got right into the game! Oh joy! I'm so fucking tired of every other game treating you like a brain damaged piece of shit which is unable to manually install anything or solve any problem, installing their own version of Visual C++ redist so you have 10-20 different versions on 1 PC at the same time and have to regularly clean it and not being able to cancel the installation or to get into the game without installing all the shit which developer deemed to be there. Thank you. 14
Games / Moddable games« on: October 28, 2012, 06:27:37 PM »
So I decided to finally completely ditch Source engine. Now I don't have games to mod but my modding urge is huge. So, does anyone know good moddable games? I really don't care about release date, just the game itself and SDK should work reliably on Windows 7 64.

Games / How to remove Steam games« on: October 17, 2012, 03:17:56 AM »
Contrary to a popular belief, it is possible to completely remove Steam games from your account. Although, since Valve is relying on people having games in their accounts, they've made it very difficult for a lay person. Here's a step-by-step guide which should be easy to understand and follow.
Intro First, here is some copyright 101. Games are licensed, not sold. When you "buy" a game, you don't actually buy nor do you own it. What you buy is a license to play (and a few other things) a game or several games. That big green "BUY NOW" button in the Steam store is a fraud and it relies on people to be dumb when it comes to copyright laws. To add more confusion, the library view only shows the games you have license to play, not actual licenses. You need to click %accountname%'s Account in the top right corner of your Steam client to choose Account Details or go to https://store.steampowered.com/account/ . Now there are 3 tabs: Licenses + subscriptions, Store transactions and Market Transactions. Your licenses are listed in the 1st tab and you can remove them. Information on the other 2 tabs in impossible to remove. Now you may find the the names of your licenses don't always correspond to the names of games in your library and this is very important. Licenses to do not have 1 : 1 mapping to games. 1 license can grant access to several games. Licenses are indivisible and you can remove only licenses, not games. How does this work? Here's an example. Suppose that you've licensed Medal of Duty: Black Warfighter Pack which contains 2 games: Medal of Duty: Black Warfighter and Medal of Duty: Black Warfighter 2: Quick Cash Grab On Successful Franchise Go Fuck Yourself Dear Customer. Now you like the first game but really hate the sequel and really want to remove it. And you can't because you've licensed both games as a pack and now you have one license which is indivisible. The only option would be to remove the whole pack and then license the first game separately. So here's PROTIP #1: Do not license packs/bundles/whatever. License individual games or you are risking having tons of shit in your library. Now when this important point is understood, it is time to observe another possible situation. You have a lot of games and can't find which license the game you want to remove corresponds to. Thankfully, good folks at steamdb.info have you covered. Just search the name of the game and check the list of licenses (called packages there) it belongs to. You will eventually find the correct license. Found? Alright, let's start. Step 1: Wipe achievements and stats PROTIP #2: Do not license games which have achievements. Achievements are Skinner box, MMO and are considered harmful. Valve servers remember your achievements and stats even if you don't have a license for a game. For example, if you've played some game during free weekend and then licensed it a few months after, your progress will be there. Also, if you remove the license from your account, your achievements will still float there. We don't want this. So go ahead and download Steam Achievement Manager. There is a button on the top that will reset everything in a few clicks. Now, if you've had some games in the past or played free weekends, you may want to delete those stray stats. There's no easy way, but you can contact Steam Support. If anyone manages to do this and will have confirmation, PM me. Step 2: Wipe Steam Cloud data Valve really don't want you to own your data. They've made no obvious way to remove your data from their servers. Thankfully, one brave soul on Steam forums found a tricky way. Now, again you may have cloud data for games which you don't have licenses to. And there is a way to check that. Make sure your read the above link and understand it first. First, you can find the data locally in userdata folder. Make a list of appids there that you don't have licenses to and then remove all those folders. Launch Steam with "-dev" command line parameter (google if you don't understand how to do this). Open console and type "cloud_sync_down <appid>" where appid is the one from the list you've made previously. Now check userdata folder. If the appid folder was created, then there is a data on Valve servers. You can contact Steam Support and request the removal of your data. They call it "one time customer service gesture" so you can only do this one time. So don't leave cloud data behind. Tired? PROTIP #3: Do not use Steam Cloud. Remove all cloud data and disable Steam Cloud in the settings of Steam. Step 3: Contact Steam Support Now you've wiped your achievements, stats and Steam Cloud data and you are sure that the only thing that still connects you to the game is the license? It's time to get rid of it. You'll need to contact Steam Support for that. Create a ticket. On the right hand side choose the product accordingly or choose *STEAM* if you want to remove several licenses. Next, there is no category for removing licenses but I like "Purchases and Payments > Purchase Failures". Fill your login and payment method. Select OS (just for kicks). Now it's time to write the meat of the ticket. I usually name my tickets "Remove license(s)". Now, you can write the body how you want, but I suggest to follow this template: Quote Hello, I would like to remove the following license(s): It is best to just copy/paste license names from your account details. See intro of this post for instructions. If you don't know how to provide proof of purchase, click this link. The last paragraph is not mandatory and is up to you, although I've worded it in a specific way to help you easily breach Steam Support's first line of defense. In any case, you will still most likely to receive the following the response: Quote Hello <your name>, Step 4: Engage the Lawyer Mode When you register your Steam account, you agree to be bound by the terms of Steam Subscriber agreement. When you purchase a license and start downloading a game, you have to agree to the terms of the game's End User License Agreement. Notice that this is fraud. Even if you don't agree to the terms, the transaction has already been completed and it is too late to take your money back. Anyway, both SSA and EULA are legal contracts between you and Valve (at least). It should be obvious than you should have a legal right to terminate the contract. If Valve wouldn't allow to do that, they would be breaking the law. So, let's examine the SSA (as of 25 apr 2013): Quote 10. TERM AND TERMINATION There it goes, in plain English. Gotta say, they've really cleaned up this section over the years. It was way more Legalese a few years ago. Maybe somebody finally sued or threaten to sue them? Anyway, reply to your ticket, point them to section 10(B). They will have no choice. What you should get is this: Quote Hello <your name>, Step 5: Final push We're almost there. Now you only need to reply that you would like to proceed and that's all. On average it takes 3-7 days for each ticket so don't expect a quick response. *EDIT HERE* --- Post in reconstruction. Original content below --- You just need to contact Steam support. And here are my tickets so you know what you're up to. Ticket #1 Quote from: Me Hello. Ticket #2 Quote from: Me Hello. Quote from: Support Tech Raymond Hello {my real name}, Quote from: Me I've made another ticket {ticket number} before and I've successfully removed my licenses. Why do I have to ask several times again? Quote from: Me Correction: you have removed my licenses. Namely, tech support Vince. I know that I wouldn't be able to install them again without purchasing 2nd time and I do not want any refund, I also understand that CD-Keys will be invalid. Quote from: Support Tech Ronald Hello {my real name}, Quote from: Me I've contacted Steam support before and you were able to completely remove the licenses. I know that I wouldn't be able to install them again without purchasing 2nd time and I do not want any refund, I also understand that CD-Keys will be invalid. Quote from: Support Tech Ronald Hello {my real name}, Quote from: Me I would like to proceed. Quote from: Me Before you proceed, I would also like to add the following licenses to the list: Quote from: Me I'm sorry for updating this ticket frequently but today I've discovered that FlatOut 2 servers were shut down, so I would also like to add the following licenses: Quote from: Support Tech Ronald Hello {my real name}, Quote from: Me Thank you, but it appears that I forgot to remove Half-Life 1: Source. Quote from: Me You* Quote from: Me Upon further inspection of my account I've found that PAYDAY The Heist: Wolfpack DLC is still in the list of my licenses, did you forget to remove it too? Quote from: Me To reiterate, I would like the following licenses removed: Quote from: Support Tech Ronald Hello {my real name}, As you can see only licenses can be removed, not individual games. I would be screwed if I'd buy FlatOut pack, so don't buy bundles. Next, Steam support really don't want to remove games, you'll have to point them to SSA. And finally, they will always require confirmation, always. On average, it takes 4 business days for support to reply so ordinary request to remove a game would take about a week and first request may take 2 weeks. Be patient.
