Indie Spotlight: Gravi (Written during Early Access with an Alpha Version of the game)

header[1]

There is another game that we would like to highlight. It’s another puzzle platformer, this time instead of using Meteor fueled time mechanics, it uses gravity and size manipulation. Gravi by Hashbang Games is currently in Early Access on Steam for PC and coming soon to Mac and Linux too.
I’ve had a chance to play Gravi and I got so hooked on it too that once again I was lost and the posting of its article was delayed. I really need to work on my time management skills, maybe set an alarm clock or something because when I find a really good game I get so absorbed in it, I become oblivious to the passing of time. I am just going to come right and say it. In Gravi, you will die. You will die, learn from your mistakes, and die again in the exact same spot. The game goes out of its way just to make you suffer and like a masochist, you will enjoy the pain.

The goal of the game is rather simple, survive to the end of the level and maybe if you are daring, make an attempt to gather up the collectables. You do this by swinging and shooting your way through the increasingly difficult levels and by bending gravity to your will. You can also shoot out your excess energy momentarily and shrink yourself down to make it though tight spaces. If that isn’t enough of a challenge, well let me tell you that you are not even given the break of being alone. You are pursued and hounded by an evil being attempting to stop you at your every turn. You play as a heroic little one-eyed round blue creature made up of energy named Gravi. He is very unlike the usual human or animal shaped creatures found in many games and after a while his nemesis, Anti-Gravi, a nasty red spiked creature shows up just to make your life more miserable. By the end of the game there are more traps than safe places to land, and most of the places that look safe to land are probably just as deadly as the rest of the more obvious traps.

Quote from: From their own site:

Gravi is an intense puzzle-platformer that will test your tolerance for pain. Shoot and swing your way towards victory as Gravi, an adorable blue ball of energy. While you’re launching through terrorizing traps and bending gravity to your will, Anti-Gravi, an atomic ball of rage, is barreling down on your position.

After losing yourself in the ridiculously trap-filled underbelly of an alien test facility, you must use your wits and perseverance to solve a series of perplexing puzzles. Along the way, your limits will be put to the test by all sorts of absurdly dangerous hazards.

Snatch up collectibles and fight off Anti-Gravi on your path to freedom. If you can survive Gravi’s 40 unique levels and best Anti-Gravi at his own game, you just might make it out alive.

You can pick up an Early Access copy of Gravi on Steam today as it flew through the Greenlight process with much more ease than I have had flying Gravi though the levels. For those unaware Steam Early Access lets you support the development of the game and start playing it before it is actually released. Hashbang Games is still expanding Gravi with additional content which I am already looking forward to seeing.

If you really want to play Gravi and are strapped for cash, you can head on over to Gala Giveaways and enter for your chance to win one of 25 copies!

So there you have it, another cool puzzle platformer that is designed to make you toss your controllers in rage. These games will throw a scare into you as they remind you just how deadly the world around you is. Keep an eye on the sky or on second thought, better not even go outside, maybe hide under the bed since there are traps everywhere. Best to just sit back and enjoy Ethan: Meteor Hunter and Gravi today! Oh and don’t forget your favorites POSTAL 1 and 2. If you have not already seen it, head on over to the Steam Community Forums for some thrilling POSTAL 2 news!
